Community Pharmacy Smoking Cessation Counselling Services Project

Supported by ACT Government, Health

On the 30 June 2016, the ACT Branch ACT Branchcompleted a two year program: Community Pharmacy Smoking Cessation Program (the Program), which was made possible through a grant received from the ACT Health Promotion Grants Program.

The ACT Branch of the Pharmacy Guild would like to thank ACT Health for the opportunity to undertake the Program and Cancer Council ACT for providing three training workshops and Quit Packs for pharmacies.

The Program aimed to increase awareness of health implications of tobacco use, and to provide ACT residents with improved access to medication expertise and ongoing counselling.  The intent was it would lead to an increased uptake of smoking cessation, an increase in the number of people intending to attempt to quit, the length of each attempt, and ultimately successful long-term quitting.
