Anxiety and Pharmacy

Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia with one in four people experiencing anxiety at some stage in their life.

The Black Dog Institute Australia has developed an exclusive interactive workshop for community pharmacy staff to improve their knowledge, therefore improving their  skills to better support and assist patient with anxiety disorders in their community.

Learning Objectives:

• Recognise the role pharmacists and pharmacy staff can play in supporting people in distress and showing signs of anxiety
• Recognise signs and symptoms of people in distress and/or with common mental health conditions such as anxiety
• Identify and use strategies to respond appropriately to people in distress and/or showing signs of anxiety
• Identify and apply steps to have a conversation with someone who is in distress and/or showing signs of anxiety
• Identify and suggest local services and evidence-based resources where appropriate for people in distress and/or with anxiety
• Use self-care resources and strategies to manage your own mental health and wellbeing

Registration is open to all NSW based pharmacy staff, and pharmacists and pharmacy assistants are encouraged to participate.

You must be at least 18 years old to participate in this training course. For learners aged 16 years +, they must receive permission from their parent/guardian. A statutory declaration must be completed and submitted for the registration to be approved.

You must complete any pre-requirements and attend your selected workshop session to successfully complete the training course. If you do not complete either component, you will not satisfactorily complete the training course.

Each class has limited places available and thus, you will not be able to change/swap classes under any circumstances so please select carefully.

Upon successful completion of the available learning module, your pharmacy will be able to identify themselves as a safe space to their community.

This activity has been accredited for 2 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 2 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan, which can be converted to 2 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 4 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.
