Would your pharmacy staff be prepared in handling a mental health crisis incidence in the pharmacy?
Community pharmacists are one of the most accessible healthcare professionals and have the knowledge in many clinical conditions. With the prevalence of mental health increasing across Australia, ensuring pharmacy staff are trained to recognise and respond appropriately to mental health problems is essential in providing continuous care to the community. A Blended Mental Health First Aid (BMHFA) training course will educate pharmacy staff on the relevant skills and tools needed to ensure proper care is delivered to those experiencing a mental health problem.
The Blended Mental Health First Aid Course is a combination of online (eLearning) and a following half-day face-to-face training.
The eLearning component is designed to give participants the flexibility of self-paced learning, developing their knowledge and understanding of mental health problems, mental health crises and the relevant skills and tools to assist adults developing a mental health problem or who are experiencing a mental health crisis. The face-to-face component gives participants the opportunity to review their knowledge and skills with practical scenarios.
Upon completion of the eLearning, the face-to-face workshop and a short assessment, participants will receive a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation, which is valid for 3 years.
The BMHFA is open to all members of pharmacy, including pharmacists, pharmacy assistants and invidiauls interested in mental health first aid.

This activity has been accredited for 12 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 24 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan.
