Blended Mental Health First Aid for Pharmacy

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is the help provided to a person developing a mental health problem or in a mental health crisis, until appropriate professional treatment is received or until the crisis resolves. As the most accessible health professionals, community pharmacists and community pharmacy staff will, at times, need to provide care to people who are experiencing a mental health issue.

The blended MHFA Course is a combination of a self-paced online (eLearning) course with a follow-on half day face-to-face session. Using case-studies, videos and resources tailored to learning needs, you will learn mental health first aid skills which can be applied to help any adult. These include:

  • how to recognise signs and symptoms of mental health problems and crises in your customers and co-workers
  • risk factors and appropriate evidence-based treatments and supports
  • how to respond and offer appropriate support to customers and co-workers using the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan ALGEE

The 4 hour face to face course will be delivered by an accredited Mental Health First Aid instructor and discuss helping adults in mental health crisis situations and/or in the early stages of mental health problems.

After completing both steps and following successful completion of an online Accreditation Assessment of 15 questions, you will receive a Mental Health First Aider Certificate of Accreditation valid for 3 years.

The Blended course is ideal for Pharmacists and staff within Australian pharmacies who find it difficult to attend the 12 hour MHFA course.
