Immunisation Refresher Course

Course Information

The Pharmacy Guild Immunisation Refresher Course is a four-hour workshop, designed for pharmacists who are already authorised immunisers, and is intended to increase pharmacist confidence to deliver immunisation services.

The hands-on refresher workshop will cover:

• Benefits, precautions and target groups for vaccine administration
• Vaccine reconstitution technique
• Injection techniques (Sub-cutaneous and Intra-muscular)
• Appropriate post-vaccination care in a pharmacy setting

The course is suitable for pharmacists looking to:

• Refresh injection techniques (Sub-cutaneous and Intra-muscular)
• Meet CPD requirements outlined in the current Queensland Pharmacist Vaccination Standards

Course Pre-Requisites

Participants must hold a current Pharmacist Immuniser certificate. If you do not hold a current Pharmacist Immuniser certificate, please refer to the Pharmacy Guild Immunisation Course, which has been developed to provide the knowledge and skills required for pharmacists to deliver vaccination services to the community.

Do I need to sit a full course or a refresher course?

Course fees

Guild Member pharmacy: $220 (GST free)
Non-Member pharmacy: $350 (GST free)
Cost includes workshop materials

Course Format

1. Online Pre-Learning Module – must be completed prior to attending the workshop
2. Vaccination Workshop – face to face training where participants practice and are assessed on injection techniques.

CPD information

G2019018: This activity has been accredited for 5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 5 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan which can be converted to 5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 10 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.

G2019018A Online module (1 hour):

This activity has been accredited for 1 hour of Group 1 CPD (or 1 CPD credit) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan which can be converted to 1 hour of Group 2 CPD (or 2 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.

G2019018B Workshop (4 hours):

This activity has been accredited for 4 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 4 CPD credit) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan which can be converted to 4 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 8 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.

Learning Objectives

• Recognise requirements of pharmacist immunisers, including resources
• Recognise key information about relevant vaccine-preventable diseases
• Recognise the practical processes involved in performing an immunisation
• Identify the recommended sites for vaccination in an adult and outline the reasons for these
• Recognise the importance of recording on the AIR
• Describe the benefits, precautions, and target groups for influenza, dTpa and MMR vaccination
• Demonstrate clinical competence in the knowledge and skills relating to the administration of vaccinations.
• Demonstrate the ability to draw up from a syringe, and administer intramuscular and subcutaneous injections
• Identify appropriate post-vaccination care in a pharmacy setting
