First Aid Training (HLTAID003 Provide First Aid)

Previously known as Apply first aid or Senior first aid, this training course will give you the skills and knowledge required to provide First Aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, in a range of situations, including in the home, workplace or within the community, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. 

Online E-Learning format

The theory component of this first aid training course is delivered online through the Red Cross online learning portal. Once completed, students must attend a one-day practical assessment session to complete the full qualification.

  • Basic Life Support (DRSABCD)
  • CPR and AED
  • Abdominal injuries
  • Allergic reaction 
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Bleeding and wound care
  • Burns and scalds
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Choking and airway obstruction
  • Crush injuries
  • Diabetes
  • Drowning
  • Envenomation
  • Extremes of heat and cold
  • Eye and ear injuries
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Musculoskeletal injuries: fractures and dislocations, strains and sprains
  • Poisoning and toxic substances
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Seizures/Convulsions
  • Shock management
  • Stroke
  • Unconsciousness

Recertification

Current industry standards state this course must be updated every 3 years, with the CPR component to be updated annually.

Assessment

Students will be assessed through the demonstration of practical skills, participation in role plays, analysis of case studies and a written quiz.

Note: It is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed on the adult manikin on the floor.

Outcome

On successful completion of this course, students will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.

Cost & Availability

This one day training course (and online pre-learning) costs $100 for Guild members and their staff. Please note lunch is not provided, however a 1 hour lunch break will be scheduled to allow students sufficient time to purchase food nearby.
