Progressive Business Cabinet Dinner for the Victorian Labor party with Minister for Mental Health and Aged Care, Martin Foley MP

Last week Allan Crosthwaite, Victorian Branch Director and I hosted a table of Guild members at a Progressive Business Cabinet Dinner for the Victorian Labor party with Minister for Mental Health and Aged Care, Martin Foley MP as our special guest.

I’m pleased to report that it was a very constructive evening with the Minister being supportive of the discussions around mental health, immunisations and vaccinations. Minister Foley was particularly interested in how pharmacies can play a role with mental health and suicide prevention. He was also interested to discuss the roll-out of Real Time Prescription Monitoring in pharmacies.

Events such as these deliver intangible member value to Guild members. Members get the opportunity to get face to face time with parliamentarians and raise any issues or concerns that they may have. We continually involve interested members to join our policy and advocacy meetings and had a new member Stephanie Miridakis sit on Premier Daniel Andrews table for this meeting.

Continuing the theme of Mental Health, the Guild in partnership with PSA is also hosting a Harm Minimisation Forum in Melbourne on 28th September. This free event is open to all professionals in the Alcohol and Other Drug sector, an excellent opportunity to network and deliberate collaboratively on a matter of major concern. The discussion panel includes journalists, politicians and addiction medicine specialists. Please see attached flyer for further details.
