Supporting community pharmacy to manage changes from codeine upscheduling

Media Release

Date: 16 November 2017

After 1 February 2018 all combination medicines containing codeine will be rescheduled as Prescription Only Medicines (Schedule 4).

These medicines have long been a component of pharmacy’s pain management category. The rescheduling of combination medicines containing codeine may have an impact on the business of many community pharmacies.

Managing upscheduling will require community pharmacies to undertake some careful planning.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) have developed an online course module titled Codeine rescheduling: Transforming your business.

The course examines the impacts of the scheduling change and discusses the actions your pharmacy can take to prepare for the change.

This activity has been accredited for 1.5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 1.5 CPD credits), suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan, which can be converted to 1.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 3 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.

To enrol in this course please visit www.myCPD.org.au or www.psa.org.au/codeine/education

For more information, contact either the Guild on (03) 9810 9930 or email learninganddevelopment@guild.org.au or PSA on 1300 369 772 or email education@psa.org.au
