Working in rural and remote pharmacies across Australia offers unique opportunities which pharmacy professionals in urban areas may find hard to imagine.
Now these rural and remote pharmacies are being given the opportunity to show their colleagues just why they love working in these areas – and also to invite more pharmacy professionals to join them in this special healthcare setting.
As part of the I Love Rural Pharmacy (#iloveruralpharmacy) theme of the Rural Pharmacy Forum at APP2018, rural and remote pharmacists and their staff are invited to submit a 30-45 second video about their work and experiences in their unique pharmacies. And the added theme this year is ‘Come Work With Me’ (#comeworkwithme), which gives scope for contestants to highlight to the audience why they should consider working in rural and remote pharmacy.
The competition follows the huge success of the inaugural video contest last year which was a highlight of the Rural Pharmacy Forum.
National President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia, George Tambassis, said this year’s competition would again give rural and remote pharmacies and their staff the chance to share their enthusiasm and passion.
“This year’s added theme of ‘Come Work With Me’ highlights the challenges of recruiting and retaining an effective workforce for rural and remote pharmacies,” Mr Tambassis said.
“The videos will give pharmacies the chance to show just why working in these areas is so attractive and rewarding.
“One thing that struck me with the videos last year is that they all brought to a wider audience the passion, commitment and dedication that these rural and remote pharmacies have for their communities and for their own staff.
“This year’s added theme will no doubt again reflect this passion and also give these pharmacies an added opportunity to display their creative flair.”
As many videos may be shot on mobile phones, the Rural Pharmacy Forum has compiled some tips to help get the best video results from phone cameras. These can be accessed on the Rural Phamacy Video Competition page.
The winners will be announced at the Rural Pharmacy Forum session at APP2018 on Thursday 3 May 2018 at which 2017 Pharmacy of the Year winner proprietor Lucy Walker will be a key speaker.
Best Video will be judged prior to APP2018, and the People’s Choice winner will be judged by the audience at the Rural Pharmacy Forum session.
Prizes of an APP2019 Registration and a GuildCare NG 12-month subscription will be awarded in the categories. The Best Video winner will have the choice of prize, with the other prize going to the People’s Choice winner.
To be eligible for the competition, entrants must be an employee or an owner of a PhARIA 4-6 pharmacy. Eligibility will be confirmed before prizes are awarded.
Entries close 3 April 2018 and videos can be uploaded through the submission form
