QLD Guild appoints new Branch Director

23 October 2019

The Queensland Branch of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia has appointed Mr Gerard Benedet as its new Branch Director.

Mr Benedet is an experienced and dedicated executive with extensive knowledge of both the public and private sectors, including senior positions in Queensland State politics. Having worked at the National Rugby League, News Corporation, Careers Australia Group and as a Chief of Staff to a State Treasurer, Mr Benedet’s strategic leadership and advocacy skills are a welcome addition to the Guild in Queensland. He is also the founding National Director of the not-for-profit mainstream advocacy organisation Advance Australia.

The Queensland Branch President of the Pharmacy Guild, Trent Twomey, said: “We are delighted to have recruited such an experienced and driven person to fill this important role in our Branch.  We are confident Gerard will be a committed advocate and Branch administrator on behalf of Queensland community pharmacies, helping us to deliver the best possible health services to patients in all parts of the State.”

Mr Benedet said: “I am thrilled to join such an important organisation with so many wonderful and talented Members and staff. I wish to thank the Guild and President Twomey for this unique opportunity to make a difference.

“Community pharmacy is 100 per cent local, providing a direct link between good health and the lives of millions of Queenslanders.

“Community pharmacists stand ready and willing to do more and provide an expanded service offering to all Queenslanders. The successful introduction of the vaccination program in pharmacies across Queensland was just the first step towards improved, affordable and better access to health care.

“I look forward to using my strategic skills and consultative leadership approach to advocate for our Members and ensure that pharmacies across Queensland continue their positive contribution to our world class health care system.”

Mr Twomey and Mr Benedet also paid tribute to the outgoing branch Director, Ms Robyn Ede, who gave the Pharmacy Guild 25 years of dedicated service and left an indelible legacy.

Mr Benedet will commence his new role on 28 October.
