Drug use can happen in any family

Support National Family Drug Support Day on 24 February

Despite being crucial to the success of any treatment for drug abuse, family members often encounter stigma and discrimination as a result of problematic drug abuse in the family. An inaugural event has been organised to promote greater support and resources for these families.

Drug abuse can be hard to escape in the pharmacy industry; we see it in some of our patients, we hear about it from their carers, and we’re doing our bit to prevent it with initiatives such as Project STOP and MedsASSIST.

Family Drug Support (FDS) have organised the National Family Drug Support Day on 24 February 2017, with events held around the country to highlight the need for families of drug users to not only be recognised and heard but to be supported and encouraged to speak about their concerns and their needs.

The first National Family Drug Support Day was held on the 24th February 2016 – the anniversary of the passing of Damien Trimingham from a drug related overdose - will become an annual event to highlight the need for families to not only be recognised and heard but to be supported and encouraged to speak about their concerns and their needs.

If you’d like to support National Family Drug Support Day in your pharmacy, resources are available for download from the links provided, or you can find out more about providing direct support from the FDS website.
