The Pharmacy Guild of Australia supports the Albanese Government’s decision to amend the ‘Closing the Loopholes’ bill in the interests of both casual employees and employers.

The original legislation created uncertainty for employers wanting to employ casuals on a regular working hours basis.

Pharmacy Guild National President, Professor Trent Twomey says the amendment will now give employers greater certainty when it comes to employing casuals on a regular basis.

“Like many industries, the pharmacy sector relies on a casual workforce to serve our patients and the community.

We thank Workplace Relations Minister Tony Burke for listening to the concerns of employers and acting in the interests of our workforce and our patients,” Professor Twomey said.

Community pharmacies employ over 56,000 pharmacists and pharmacy assistants of which 18% are casual.
