The Guild actively supported the development of the Code, ensuring it reflects the realities of modern community pharmacy practice and the increasingly important role pharmacists play in delivering accessible, frontline healthcare. The updated Code reflects both the evolving role of pharmacists and a shared commitment to strengthening how care is delivered across Australia.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia National Vice President Simon Blacker said the new Code represents an important step forward for the profession.
“Community pharmacy is making it easier than ever before for Australians to get the care they need, when and where they need it.
“Strong frameworks like this Code of Ethics as well as the new Quality and Safety Pharmacy Program accreditation programme strengthen the safeguards, standards and quality systems that underpin care.
“Community pharmacists continue to look for ways to strengthen our practice and build on the trust Australians already have in their local pharmacy. This Code is an important step forward for our profession.
“Millions of Australians already Think Pharmacy First for safe, effective and accessible healthcare.”
The new Code reflects the increasingly complex healthcare landscape, including the treatment of everyday and long-term health conditions.
With more than 6,000 community pharmacies across Australia, pharmacists are often the most accessible health professionals, providing care when and where patients need it most. Australians can visit Find a Pharmacy to book an appointment or walk-in to access the care they need.
