APP looks at pharmacy rentals

3 March 2021

Pharmacy owners and managers at this year’s Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference and Trade Exhibition (APP) will be provided with expert advice on practical ways to make their businesses more resilient, with rent being a key area of focus.

Presenting a session on the COVID-19 impact of pharmacy rentals will be one of Australia’s leading retail industry experts, Lease 1 Director Phil Chapman. A partner of the Pharmacy Guild, Lease1 gives high-level advice across industry on how to best position and negotiate lease arrangements.

The session will outline the impact of COVID-19, where pharmacy rentals are heading and will include some of the critical conclusions from The Pharmacy Guild of Australia Rental Report.

Mr Chapman said meticulous planning was needed for any strategy regarding rent.

“One of the areas of expenditure we can exercise some control over is the amount of money we spend on rent,” Mr Chapman said.

“The resilience of community pharmacy during the pandemic reinforced the value pharmacies bring to landlords.

“Unfortunately, as landlords seek to recapture asset value, their strategy is to find growth in those sectors; pharmacy owners should have their own strategies to be renewing their leases early.”

Joining Mr Chapman in the presentation will be Pharmacy Guild Group Executive for Health Economics, Philip Chindamo.

Mr Chindamo is an economist with high-level policy analysis and technical economics skills who has worked in various economic analysis and advisory roles in the public and private sectors.

APP2021 is being held 20-23 May at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre. With a theme of ‘reconnecting with care’. The event will be run under the guidelines of a COVID Safe Event Plan approved by the Queensland Government Public Health Unit.
