Under the program, Queenslanders aged six months and over can receive a free influenza vaccination at their participating community pharmacy across the state.
Pharmacy Guild of Australia Queensland Branch President, Chris Owen, encouraged Queenslanders who have not yet received their 2026 flu vaccination to book before the program ends.
“We’ve seen a surge in flu cases in the month of August,” said Mr Owen, “now is a great time for those who haven’t already gotten the free flu vaccination to do so.”
“There is still time to protect yourself and your family against influenza, but the free vaccination program finishes at the end of September,” Mr Owen said.
“We’re encouraging Queenslanders who haven’t yet been vaccinated this year to take advantage of the program while they can and book an appointment at their local community pharmacy.”
Latest Queensland Health data shows influenza notifications increased by 44% in the most recent reporting week, with 2200 cases recorded across the state. So far this year, 1599 influenza cases have been admitted to hospital.
“Influenza can cause serious illness, particularly for young children, older Queenslanders and especially for people living with chronic health conditions,” Mr Owen said.
“Vaccination remains one of the best ways to protect yourself and those around you, and community pharmacies make it easy for Queenslanders to access vaccination close to home.”
With hundreds of participating community pharmacies across Queensland, getting vaccinated is convenient and accessible for patients and families.
“Don’t leave it until the last minute. If you haven’t had your flu vaccination this year, book now and make the most of the free program before it ends on 30 September,” Mr Owen said.
