Walter Mikac AM to present inspiring Alan Russell Oration at APP2026

5 November 2025

APP Conference Convenor, Kos Sclavos AM, is excited to announce Walter Mikac AM will present the Alan Russell Oration at the Australasian Pharmacy Professional Conference and Trade Exhibition (APP2026). Sponsored by PDL, his speech ‘Resilience for life: turning tragedy into purpose’ will offer a renewed perspective on life’s challenges.

“We are delighted to welcome Walter Mikac to APP2026,” said Mr Sclavos. “His ability to turn unimaginable personal tragedy into a message of hope and purpose will deeply resonate with our delegates.”

Walter Mikac AM is an experienced pharmacist whose life changed forever following the tragic loss of his wife and two daughters in the Port Arthur massacre. In the years since, he has become a speaker, author, advocate for positive change, and founder of The Alannah & Madeleine Foundation, a national Australian charity dedicated to keeping children and young people safe from violence and trauma. Through his work, Walter encourages others to find strength, meaning, and motivation in even the most difficult circumstances.

Walter joins an impressive speaker lineup, including celebrated athlete Jana Pittman, and AI expert Adam Spencer. Jana’s session will cover her journey across sport and medicine and offer practical wisdom for overcoming challenges to achieve success in any field, while Adam will show delegates how to make AI work for you and your pharmacy.

Mr Sclavos noted that all three speakers are excellent examples of this year’s conference theme. “Beyond the Script is a call to action for pharmacy professionals to adapt, and embrace compassion and collaboration,” he said. “Walter and Jana’s stories are powerful examples of resilience and determination - I have no doubt their insights on overcoming adversity and achieving the extraordinary will motivate delegates to drive change in their communities.”

“Adam will unpack AI and reveal how embracing these technologies can carry your pharmacy into tomorrow.”

With Tier 2 pricing now open, Mr Sclavos encouraged delegates to book now to save up to $140 on full registration.

“APP is the heartbeat of community pharmacy - it’s where the profession comes together to connect, learn, and be inspired,” Mr Sclavos said. “I encourage everyone to register before the end of January to get the best price for this landmark event.”
