For years, NAPSA has advocated alongside students, universities and the broader pharmacy profession to address placement poverty and reduce the financial barriers that many students face while completing their degrees. Mandatory placements are an essential part of pharmacy education, yet they often come with considerable out-of-pocket costs and limited opportunities to earn an income.
The expansion of Commonwealth Prac Payments is a welcome recognition of the important role pharmacy students play in Australia’s future health workforce. This reform will help ensure more students can complete their placements without facing unnecessary financial hardship and represents a meaningful investment in the next generation of pharmacists.
While this announcement is a significant achievement, NAPSA’s advocacy does not stop here. We remain committed to representing the voices of more than 5,000 pharmacy students nationwide and will continue to work with government, universities and our professional partners to improve the student experience.
As the new academic semester gets underway, there are plenty of opportunities for students to become involved with NAPSA. From national advocacy initiatives and professional development opportunities to leadership positions and events, we encourage every pharmacy student to engage with the national student community.
