Influenza vaccines are available through community pharmacy at a private cost, or free for certain eligible patients under the NIPVIP or some State or Territory programs.
Annual vaccination is a safe and effective measure to protect against influenza and its complications and is recommended for all people aged 6 months and over. Vaccination against influenza should ideally occur before the onset of each influenza season, when it becomes available, but should continue to be offered as long as influenza viruses are circulating and a valid vaccine is available.
