9 June 2025

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, Queensland congratulates Brisbane pharmacist Hannah Knowles on her election as President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s (PSA) Queensland Branch.

Queensland Guild Branch President Chris Owen welcomed Ms Knowles, saying her appointment comes at a pivotal time for the profession. He added that he looks forward to collaborating with her in her new role.

“Hannah brings extensive clinical experience and a clear vision for the future of community pharmacy as she steps up from the Queensland Vice President role,” Mr Owen said. “Her leadership in hospital pharmacy and dedication to education and innovation will be invaluable as we work together to ensure pharmacists across Queensland are supported to deliver world-class health care in their communities.”

“I know that Ms Knowles is committed to advancing pharmacist roles across Queensland by championing evidence based practice, expanding clinical scope, and advocating for a workforce supported by meaningful education, research, and recognition.”

Mr Owen also acknowledged the contribution of outgoing PSA Queensland President Shane MacDonald.

“Shane has been a tireless advocate for the profession and a steady hand during a period of great change and growth for pharmacists in Queensland,” Mr Owen said.

Under Mr MacDonald’s leadership, the PSA has worked closely with the Guild to support the expansion of pharmacists’ scope of practice, including through the Queensland Community Pharmacy Scope of Practice Pilot. The Guild thanks Shane for his dedication to strengthening the role of pharmacists in Queensland’s health care system.

We look forward to working with Ms Knowles to ensure that community pharmacies across Queensland are supported in delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare in every community.

“The PSA and the Guild remain united in their goal to embed expanded pharmacist roles permanently into Queensland’s health system and to strengthen the community pharmacy profession to deliver better health outcomes for all Queenslanders,” said Mr Owen.
