SA Community Pharmacy Oral Contraceptive Pill Resupply Services

Date: 23 April 2024

From the 6th May 2024, South Australian pharmacists will be able to provide new services under the SA Community Pharmacy Oral Contraceptive Pill Resupply Services Scheme - supporting better access to health advice and treatment for South Australian women.

Community pharmacists who have completed additional training will be able to provide assessment and resupply to eligible patients for approved oral contraceptive pills in accordance with the conditions of the Community Pharmacy Oral Contraceptive Pill Resupply Services Scheme as determined by the Minister for Health and Wellbeing by notice in the Government Gazette on 9 April 2024.

Those eligible include women aged 17 to 50 years, who have been taking an approved pill continuously for 2 years and who have seen a GP or other authorised prescribing healthcare practitioner for review in the last 2 years.

Where patients are assessed by a pharmacist as not meeting the inclusion criteria, or if resupply is not considered safe or appropriate, patients should be referred to a GP or other healthcare professional as appropriate.
