Vaccination Services

Community pharmacy is increasingly chosen by Australians for their vaccination needs. From March to October 2025, pharmacists were responsible for 2.64 million influenza vaccinations.

At their peak in March 2023, COVID-19 vaccines administered by pharmacists accounted for approximately 50% of all COVID-19 vaccinations delivered, demonstrating the integral role community pharmacist held in the success of the national COVID-19 vaccination program.

COVID-19

COVID-19 vaccination

The COVID-19 Vaccination in Pharmacy (CVCP) Program is a temporary, fee-for-service initiative administering Covid-19 vaccines through approved community pharmacies. The program aims to expand access and support national public health efforts by making vaccines more available for more Australians. From 1 July 2025, some changes to fees and requirements have been implemented, to aligning claiming and payment arrangements with the NIPVIP Program.

Other Vaccinations

Other vaccinations

Outside the CVCP and NIPVIP, community pharmacists in Australia can administer a range of vaccines. Where no specific funding program exists, individual pharmacies can determine the service fee and price of the vaccination to be charged to the patient. Each state/territory has a list of vaccinations that are approved for administration by a community pharmacist. Community pharmacists administering vaccinations must ensure they have completed relevant training and are working within their individual scope of practice. All vaccinations administered must be in accordance with the Australian Immunisation Handbook as well as state and territory requirements.
