Tri- partisan support for pharmacist owned pharmacies in Queensland

Queensland Minister for Health and Ambulance Services the Hon. Dr Steven Miles, Shadow Minister for Health and Ambulance Services Ros Bates MP, and Leader of the Katter’s Australia Party Robbie Katter MP, all gave their support for pharmacist owned pharmacies at the Queensland Guild’s annual dinner last week.

Pharmacy Guild of Australia Queensland Branch President, Professor Trent Twomey said that the dinner was held at Queensland Parliament House, and attended by over 100 guests, including most Queensland MPs, Ministers and Senators.

“The attendance and public support for the current system of community pharmacy by Queensland’s political leaders, highlights the important role that pharmacy plays in the healthcare system.

“We know that the current pharmacy ownership model relies on personal trust, with pharmacists being directly accountable and liable for the services they provide. So often they are the keystone of their local communities and play an important role in providing accessible healthcare for all Queenslanders.

“The Guild looks forward to working with the Queensland Government to provide the best care for all Queenslanders by supporting the recommendations as part of the Parliamentary Inquiry, including developing a pharmacy council and an expanded role for pharmacists and pharmacy assistants,” Professor Twomey said.
