Who should do a Dispensary course?

A dispensary assistant looking to further their knowledge and grow their dispensary skill set.

The Dispensary Course provides participants with the knowledge and understanding required to assist the pharmacist to prepare prescriptions and maintain records. The course identifies the responsibilities that must be undertaken when working in the dispensary and contributes to the dispensary assistant applying best practice procedures.

Students can learn:

This course combines a selected number of units from the community pharmacy qualifications to provide skills in:

  • Dispensing medicines
  • Stock control
  • Dispensary administration
  • Preparing dose administration aids
  • Coordinate services to patients in residential care settings

Dispensary course options:

Dispensary Short Course

This course aims to provide the knowledge and understanding required to assist the pharmacist in the dispensary. Students can add individual units to the three core units to build a course that best reflects their dispensary role.

  • SIRCIND002 - Support the supply of Pharmacy Medicines and Pharmacist Only Medicines
  • SIRCDIS001 - Assist customers with prescriptions
  • SIRCDIS003 - Assist in dispensing prescriptions
Dispensary Long Course

Short course (core unit) plus three specialised dispensary units:

  • SIRCDIS006 - Maintain dispensary stock
  • SIRCDIS007 - Administer dispensary computer systems and claims
  • SIRCDIS004 - Assist in preparing dose administration aids
