WA Free Flu Pharmacy Program 2023

During May and June 2023, the Western Australian government is funding a Free Flu Pharmacy Program. 

During May and June, Western Australians aged 5 years and over can receive a ‘no cost’ influenza vaccination from a participating community pharmacy.

  • The Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, Minister for Health; Mental Health, launched the 2023 Free Flu Campaign on Friday 21st April.
  • The Free Flu Vaccination Program runs from 1st May-30th June 2023.

Applications to participate in the Free Flu Vaccination Program 2023 are now closed.

Free Flu Pharmacy Program 2023 continues in June

The WA Government recently announced an extension of its Free Flu program (Media Statement Here). The Media Statement outlines that the Free Flu program has been extended until 30th June 2023. The Pharmacy Guild of Australia, WA Branch has been in contact with the Department of Health.

Pharmacies are advised to continue administering Free Flu vaccinations in accordance with the Free Flu SLA agreement.

Members are reminded that there is no additional Government stock for general patients. NIP stock obtained from Onelink is for NIP patients only.

Participation

Registrations for the "2023 Free Flu Vaccination Program" are now closed.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia (WA Branch) is acting as the Payment Administrator for the WA Free Influenza Vaccination Program on behalf of the WA Department of Health.

Reimbursement only applies to influenza vaccine administration during May 2023.

Program Details

Western Australians aged 5 years and over will be able to receive a ‘no cost’ influenza vaccination from a participating community pharmacy. 

The program will run from 1st May-31st May 2023.

The WA Branch has negotiated the Terms and Conditions of the Program with payments to pharmacies set at:

  • NIP Stock: Payment of $20 plus GST (Government NIP stock can be ordered via the Onelink portal)
  • Private Stock: Payment of $29 plus GST
  • Co-payments CANNOT be charged for any vaccination administered under this program.

Please note:
a) These payments are an increase on those of 2022.

b) As in 2022, the WA Government retains the right to audit participating pharmacies and order them to repay or take other action if they determine it is appropriate – with a trigger being over-claiming of 5 or more vaccinations when compared to the Pharmacy AIR data for the period.

Immuniser Training & Updates

Immunising Pharmacists are reminded that they must maintain currency of their First Aid, CPR and Anaphylaxis Certificates. Immunising Pharmacists must also complete the online Influenza Module updated annually by the WA Department of Health. Further information on update requirements for pharmacist immunisers is available HERE.

The Pharmacy Guild of Australia WA Branch will conduct additional Immunisation & Refresher Training Courses to cater for any additional pharmacist demand in the lead up to the Free Flu Pharmacy Program in 2023.
